"The keeper of many stories and secrets"

So here's the bit I tell you about me.

Well... I have always been interested in what other people have to say. In my opinion I believe everyone has an interesting story to tell, and for as long as I can remember I seemed to be 'that' person who many people trusted sharing their emotions and thoughts with.

So with this interest in mind, in 2006 when I was thinking of a career change, I decided to take on the challenge of becoming a Qualified Counsellor. I loved every minute of the three year study journey, and I never doubted that this career was the one I wanted to embrace. After I finished my studies, I dove head first into voluntary work. This was my initiation into the real world of counselling, wonderful human beings who were desperately in need of an empathetic ear and who were turning to me for guidance and support.

I have to admit I was a little nervous at the time, after all I was a complete beginner, but with my years of listening to other people's stories and my newly developed knowledge and skills, things automatically kicked in and there I was, doing the job that I loved, a job that I am happy to jump out of bed for every morning. Being able to get to know these wonderful people and supporting them in their time of need was so fulfilling and such a privilege.

From there I decided to open up my own practice in 2010. Based in Mt Martha, I ran this practice for three years, again loving every minute of it. During this time I became a qualified Trainer and Assessor and I was lucky enough to be offered employment. My role was to train students who had the same desire as me to support others in the Mental health field. During my time as an education facilitator I worked with many people, including the unemployed. I ran workshops such as; 'Building Confidence', 'The Power of Positive Thinking' as well as 'Communication Techniques'. Supporting my students with the tools to confidently apply for jobs in their desired field. We had great success!

Unfortunately because of time constraints I had to close my practice, but I knew I was still supporting others but on a different level.

My role as Education facilitator fortuitously ended due to funding cuts. This paved the way for me to get back to the one thing I have always loved, supporting people in my own counselling practice.

So in mid 2016 I started back up again running my own practice and here I am today still happily listening to many stories and keeping many secrets. Supporting wonderful people with strategies that help and empower them to live their best life.

Joy - The keeper of many stories and secrets.
